Orientation for the 8th Model African Union (AU)

The Korea-Africa Foundation held an orientation on Friday, August 1, ahead of the 8th Model African Union (AU) scheduled for November 14?15. The annual event aims to deepen Korean youth’s understanding of the AU and key African issues, while providing a platform for debate and exchange. This year, students from across Korea were selected through a competitive process to represent 29 member states.

The orientation featured a lecture on “Understanding the African Union” by Dr. Han-kyu Lee, Director of the Africa Knowledge Sharing Institute, and a special lecture on “The UN and International Peace and Security” by Ambassador Oh Joon, Chair of Save the Children Korea and former Permanent Representative of Korea to the UN. Delegates were also assigned their countries and agenda items, officially beginning their preparations for the General Assembly.

Future activities will include meetings with the African Diplomatic Corps in Korea, mentoring sessions with African students, and thematic workshops. The team awarded the Minister of Foreign Affairs Prize will also have the opportunity to visit the AU Headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
