2026 Africa Day Commemorative Event Held

The Korea-Africa Foundation held the “Africa Day 2026” commemorative event on Wednesday, May 20.

This event was co-hosted by the Korea-Africa Foundation, the African Diplomatic Corps in Korea (AGA), and the Herald Media Group. It was organized to celebrate Africa Day with the attendance of key figures from the government, diplomatic community, and arts and culture sectors.

The event began with networking, followed by an opening address by H.E. Chafik Rachadi, Ambassador of Morocco to Korea and Head of the African Diplomatic Corps in Korea, congratulatory remarks by Foreign Minister Cho Hyun and National Assembly member Lee Heon-seung, and a welcome speech by Choi Jin-young, CEO of The Korea Herald. This was followed by the Africa Contribution Awards ceremony, a fashion show, and cultural performances.

In the subsequent fashion show, hanbok inspired by the national flags of African countries, as well as traditional costumes of each country, were introduced, showcasing the diversity and beauty of African culture. In addition, performances by the Seodo Band, Kulekan, and a Samulnori team created a stage of cultural exchange and harmony between Korea and Africa.
